Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is comprised of Christian Scientists in the greater New York area who are responsible for the oversight, direction, and governance of High Ridge House. These Trustees help ensure that High Ridge House fulfills its mission, which is: "To support Christian Science healing by providing Christian Science nursing care in the most loving, practical, and economical way possible, and by providing an environment conducive to individual prayer and study."

Frances A. Hall, President

about

For most of her business career Fran worked for Fortune Magazine at Time Warner, where she headed the special sections department, a department that contributed millions of dollars in advertising sales to Fortune's profits. After leaving Time Warner, she was a partner in a small company that sold advertising primarily for Fortune and Business Week. She currently works with three women selling advertising space. Fran is a member of the Montclair Christian Science church and currently serves as president of the church's Board of Trustees. Other offices she has held include First and Second Reader, lecture chairman, and Sunday School superintendent and teacher. Fran is treasurer of the Nursing Service for Christian Scientists in the state of New Jersey.

 

Steven Ostenberg Spaulding, Vice President

about

After graduating from Principia College and serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, Steve spent nearly 30 years in the commercial real estate development field--first as a partner in the Trammell Crow Company in St. Louis and later in Las Vegas, NV, as a vice president of ProLogis Trust, an industrial real estate investment trust. While out west, he also served on the Adventure Unlimited Board for about 10 years. Steve currently teaches Sunday School at the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Westport, CT, where he also has served as Sunday School superintendent, reading room assistant librarian, and chairman of the Board of Directors. Although retired from business, Steve is currently employed as a full-time, professional grandpa. (Best job ever!)

 

Victoria J. Brademan, Secretary

about

Victoria is an attorney who recently completed 17 years of service in the corporate law department of MasterCard Worldwide. While with the company, she worked on debit and prepaid card matters and spent several years as legal counsel for its Middle East/Africa region. Previously she was Assistant General Counsel of Bunge Corporation, a grain trading and food processing company. Prior to that she was associated with two major law firms in New York City, O'Melveny & Myers and Coudert Brothers. Vicky grew up in a U.S. Navy family and lived in Japan and Italy. She holds undergraduate and law degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, NYC, where she has served variously as a Trustee, Sunday School teacher, Assistant Committee on Publication, and representative to High Ridge House. Vicky recently relocated to Alexandria, Virginia, and says she really misses New York City.

 

Beth M. Sydness, Treasurer

about

Beth graduated from Principia College and received her MBA degree from Fordham University in Marketing Management. After 10 years with Avon Products, Inc as a Marketing Director for Avon Latin America/U.S, she became an independently licensed real estate broker in New York City. She is a member of First Church of Christ Scientist, Wilton, CT, and serves her branch church as a Sunday School teacher. Beth served 6 years on the board of Camp Newfound/Owatonna, and is currently on the Executive Committee of her Association. She joined the Board of Trustees of High Ridge House in 2008 and was elected Treasurer. Beth and her husband K. Jeffries Sydness have two daughters, Chrissie and Katie.

Candace Cuniberti, Trustee

about

Candace is a fourth-generation Christian Scientist. Both of her great grandmothers came into Christian Science in the early years of the movement. She has served as First Reader, lecture chairman on several occasions and has, taught Sunday School at several Christian Science churches. In addition, Candace has served as chairman of the Christian Science Monitor Advertising Support Committee, church usher, and chairman of the Board in a branch church. She also has had the privilege of membership in five branch churches in areas as disparate as NYC and LA.

 

John Ingersoll, Trustee

about

Elected to the High Ridge House Board of Trustees in 2011, John H. Ingersoll is a senior executive for a private North American retail consulting company. Prior to that, he held senior management positions for two Fortune 100 companies—J.C. Penney and the Singer Co. His extensive management experience at these firms was an asset at the Carr Association, where he served as a Board member and Board President. John has been a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Summit, NJ, for 35 years. During this time he has been very active in church activities, including serving as First and Second Reader, a member of the church's Board of Directors, and a staff member in the Reading Room. In addition, John has been involved in the Nursing Service for Christian Scientists of New Jersey for 9 years, serving as Board President for 5 years. He also has given generously of his time to his community: He spent more than 10 years each as a Little League coach and a volunteer for Adventure Unlimited.

 

Frances Schlosstein, Trustee

about

Frances holds a masters degree in marketing and sustainability and has spent most of her career launching new products and services as an executive for PNC and Citibank or as a strategist with agencies. In 2005, after taking a technology company through acquisition, she founded The TBLS Group, a marketing and sustainability consulting practice. Frances became a Christian Scientist while living in Dayton, Ohio, in her twenties after experiencing a rapid healing of a debilitating lung disease. A board member of HRH since 2006, Frances is currently Assistant Committee on Publication of Eighth Church in Manhattan, where she has served on the Board and as Sunday School teacher over the years. Frances lives in New Jersey with her husband Jeff and enjoys many outdoor pursuits, including watching the red tail hawks soaring over the Hudson River near her home.

 

Diane Staples, C.S., Trustee

about

Diane has been a Journal-listed Christian Science practitioner since 1988 and has had many religious articles published in the Christian Science periodicals. In addition, she's been a guest speaker for several Associations and also has given a number of other inspirational talks to Christian Science foundations, care facilities, and other groups. Diane has been a member of seven branch churches, serving as First Reader in four of them and working in many other church jobs as well. Having spent some time as a patient at High Ridge House several years ago, Diane has a special love for High Ridge and a deep appreciation of its importance to the Christian Science community.
