May 2018 — “Heart to Heart”

“O God, unite us heart to heart
In sympathy divine . . . “
(Christian Science Hymnal 4:2)

Heart to heart. A sweet phrase. A tender analogy. It speaks to honesty, affection, a pure communication. Mary Baker Eddy writes:

“When the heart speaks,
however simple the words,
its language is always acceptable
to those who have hearts.”
(Miscellaneous Writings pg 262:10-12)

The human affection that bears the closest resemblance to the tender-hearted love that God has for His creation is a mother’s love for her children. Since we celebrate Mother’s Day this month, it is an opportunity not only to recognize and appreciate the expressions of that great human goodness, but also to reach out to God for a clearer sense of divine Love.

It is the spiritual sense of love that inspires the healing work of genuine Christian Scientists, of Christian Science Practitioners and Christian Science nurses. Just as a mother sees her child through loving eyes, so the metaphysician seeks to see his or her family, friends, co-workers and the world through the lens of Spirit, the lens of divine Love.

“And how is man, seen through the lens of Spirit,
enlarged, and how counterpoised his origin from dust,
and how he presses to his original, never severed from Spirit!”
(Miscellaneous Writings 129:15-18)

At High Ridge House, we are able to bear witness to progress and healing as we provide the practical care needed by our patients and as we partner with Christian Science practitioners who diligently pray for them. In the past year, we have seen quick healings of a broken ankle, injuries from an accident, recovery from a fall. As man’s spiritual perfection is revealed, we can behold and rejoice in complete healing.

Consistently using the spiritual lens of divine Love is a high standard to which we all may aspire. In proportion as we are successful we bless our fellow man and our world.

With gratitude and love from all of us,
