April 2018 — “On Our Way Rejoicing”

“For whatsoever things were written
aforetime were written for our learning,
that we through patience and comfort
of the scriptures might have hope.”
(Rom 15:4)

“He is risen!” is a joyful reference to Christ’s resurrection. The Biblical account of the Crucifixion and Resurrection resonates down through the ages with many lessons. It is a beacon of hope to all humanity.

Sometimes we do not fully understand what to do. As the disciples found when facing confusion, we can expect the Christ to reach out to us through the Scriptures. This was how Jesus comforted two of his disciples whose faith was shaken by the crucifixion, to them a devastating and unexpected event.

According to the Biblical account in Luke (Luke 24:13-35), two of his disciples left Jerusalem, upset, disappointed and confused. As they walked toward Emmaus, the risen Savior joined them “. . . but their eyes were holden that they should not know him.” He asked why they were sad. After they explained their distress, the Master rebuked their ignorance and proceeded to comfort and reassure them:

“And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” (Luke 24:27)

This encounter with the risen Christ led from despair to comfort to exaltation when they finally recognized him and they returned to Jerusalem rejoicing. It is a pivotal event in sharing the good news about the deathless reality of Life.

There are times in our experience when we, too, may find ourselves on the “road to Emmaus.” We are comforted when we turn to the Bible, where healing answers can always be found. We may find the answer ourselves, or through the help of a Christian Science practitioner or the loving assistance of Christian Science nurses. For those seeking comfort and healing, High Ridge House and our sister Christian Science nursing facilities offer an environment focused on the healing truths of the Bible and a commitment to demonstrate its transformative influence as revealed in Mary Baker Eddy’s Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Her Bible is where she found answers:

For three years after my discovery, I sought the solution of this problem of Mind-healing, searched the Scriptures and read little else . . .” (Science and Health, p. 109: 11-22)

Through the study of the Bible and Science and Health we each can feel this uplift of thought and experience.

We encourage you to call upon High Ridge House promptly if you need Christian Science nursing care, either at our facility or in your home. We are always available to be of service to you, your family and friends.

With gratitude and love from all of us,
